NH textile mill first to use genetically engineered spider silk 5 times stronger than steel

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Inc. of Lansing, Mich., has created a fiber that blends the replicated DNA of spiders with the silk-spinning skills of caterpillars. New Hampshire-based Warwick Mills will soon begin turning the fiber into fabric.

Five times stronger than steel and three times tougher than Kevlar, by weight, spider silk has galvanized the imaginations of researchers for many years.
