MacEdge store in Portsmouth broken into

PORTSMOUTH — Officers from several police departments surrounded a computer store building early Sunday morning after a brazen daylight break-in.

Portsmouth police were dispatched to the MacEdge store at 599 Lafayette Road after an alarm at 5:18 a.m. reported a break-in at the site. Police said a hole was cut through a vacant building next door to gain access to the MacEdge store, which sells Apple computer products.

Portsmouth officers were first to arrive, and thought they heard someone in the building. A Portsmouth fire department ladder truck was called to the scene, and an officer with a rifle and scope was raised above the building in the truck’s bucket, to watch as the building’s roof was searched.

The area was eventually declared clear. Portsmouth police were unable Sunday night to place a dollar value on the items stolen, but said it likely totaled in the thousands of dollars. More information was expected to be released today, including a description of the individuals involved.Officers from Portsmouth, Rye and state police responded.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call Portsmouth police at 427-1500.
