KEENE — Barton Associates Inc., a Massachusetts-based company that connects medical professionals to jobs in medical practices and hospitals, plans to open a Keene office Sept. 1.
The 13,000-square-foot office at 149 Emerald St. has the capacity to accommodate up to 100 people, said Jason Daeffler, Barton Associates marketing director.
“We’re excited to get up there. Keene is a vibrant community,” he said.
The company is hiring staff this summer to fill the positions that include recruiting and sale positions, Daeffler said.
Once the office is open the recruiters will be looking to place physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in practices and hospitals across the country.
“There’s a huge need for our service across the country. There’s a massive shortage of physicians taking place with the implementation of the (Affordable Care Act), which is Obamacare,” Daeffler said. “Our role here is to connect the dots and put providers out there where they are needed.”
The Association of American Medical Colleges projects there will be a shortage of 70,000 physicians in this country by 2015, Daeffler said, shooting up to 130,000 by 2025.
Because of the physician shortage, physician assistants and nurse practitioners that can fill some of that role are also in demand, Daeffler said.
Keene’s proximity to several colleges such as Keene State College, Antioch University New England in Keene and Franklin Pierce University in Rindge was part of the reason Keene was chosen.
Barton Associates is headquartered in Peabody, Mass, but also has offices in Hardwick, Mass., Connecticut and Florida.
Along with the Keene office, Barton Associates plans to open a new office in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 1.
