Court: Hinsdale man sexually exploited children

CONCORD — A Hinsdale man, accused of engaging in explicit sexual conduct with a child and distributing pornographic images online, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison Friday.

Benjamin Maes, 32, was arrested after an undercover detective with the FBI/Metropolitan D.C. Police Department task force on Nov. 15, 2012 placed an ad on Craigslist and received images of child pornography from Maes, who described himself online as a 42-year-old “taboo dad,” according to court records.

“I am a 42 year old taboo dad in the DC area looking to meet like minded people for chat and possible hook ups. Discreet only, 10% real here, no limits. Put perv in the header so I know you’re real,” he said in the ad.

Metropolitan Police Department Detective Timothy Palchak responded and began communicating with Maes via email and Yahoo Instant Messenger. Between Nov. 18, 2012 and Nov. 29, 2012, Maes allegedly emailed the detective sexually explicit images of children.

Photographs sent on Nov. 29, 2012 depicted sexual acts between a man and a child, investigators said.

Maes was arrested in December 2012 on a federal warrant issued in the District of Columbia.

Investigators seized various electronic items belonging to Maes and forensic examination of his cellular phones revealed numerous images of child pornography, including images of Maes engaged in sexually explicit conduct with a minor.

Also involved in the investigation were the FBI, Hinsdale Police Department and the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Helen White Fitzgibbon.
