Plymouth chiropractor shot to death in Rumney by man he knew say police

RUMNEY - A Plymouth chiropractor was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head after a fight with another man, authorities said.

Dr. David Landseadel, 48, knew the man he fought with, according to a news release from Attorney General Joseph A. Foster.

“The circumstances surrounding this altercation, and any prior contacts between the victim and the other male are the subject of the ongoing investigation. No arrest has been made,” the news release stated.

The death has been ruled a homicide.

Landseadel’s body was discovered near Stinson Lake in Rumney shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday by local rescue crews after his body was seen by a passerby, Rumney Fire Chief David Coursey said.

“We were called up there; we didn’t know exactly what it was all about, and still don’t,” Coursey said Monday. “Our first medical people got there and could tell there was no way to save him. I can’t say more beyond that.”

At Landseadel’s home in Rumney, a woman answered the phone Monday, crying. “I can’t answer any questions,” she said.

Rumney town officials said Landseadel was an alternate member of the planning board.

“All I can say is he’s been a very professional member of our board,” Planning Board Chairman Gerard Thibodeau said.

Landseadel ran Plymouth Chiropractic in an office complex on Route 25. The other offices in the complex were closed Monday.

On his office door, a hand-written sign said: “To clients, something unexpected has happened, apparently. Sorry.”

The office’s answering machine message said the office was reopening on Monday after vacation.
