Derry fire damages porch

DERRY —Firefighters quickly extinguished a porch fire at a Chester Road home early Tuesday morning after a motorist driving by reported it.

The fire department received the call at 12:02 a.m. reporting a building fire at 121 Chester Road. When they arrived, everyone was out of the home, and the back porch of the single story, wood-frame house was in flames.

The fire had extended to the siding, and fire crews, using a hand line, had it under control within 30 minutes.

No one was injured.

Damage was confined to the porch and exterior wall, although fire crews opened interior walls and ceilings to be certain the flames hadn’t extended into them.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
