Porch damaged in Derry blaze
DERRY -- Firefighters quickly extinguished a porch fire at a Chester Road home early Tuesday morning after a motorist driving by called it in.
The fire department was called at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday and told there was a building fire at 121 Chester Road. When firefighters arrived, everyone was out of the home and the back porch was in flames.
The fire had extended to the siding and fire crews, using a hand line, had it under control within 30 minutes.
No one was injured.
Damage was confined to the porch and exterior wall, although fire crews opened interior walls and ceilings to be certain the flames hadn't extended into them.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
