Fourth-place Silver Knights return to action

The Nashua Silver Knights, losers of two straight games in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, look to even their season record tonight at 7 p.m. in a road game against the North Shore Navigators at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.

The Knights are 11-12 and in fourth place in the West Division. Nashua will host the Pittsfield Suns at Holman Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

In 21 games, Nashua outfielder Matt Sanchez is batting .333 with three homers and 13 RBIs. Infielder Michael Pierson is batting .329 with no homers and 12 RBIs in 20 games and infielder Joe Napolitano has a .254 batting average in 20 games with one homer and 13 RBIs. Outfielder Carson Helms, of Southern New Hampshire University, has played 12 games with Nashua. He is batting .366 (15 for 41) with three homers and seven RBIs.

In the New England Collegiate Baseball League, the fourth-place Keene Swamp Bats enter play today at 8-10, one-half game in front of the Laconia Muskrats in the Northern Division.

Swamp Bats outfielder Zach Lauricella is the leading hitter (.297) on the team. The outfielder had one homer and 11 RBIs in 18 games. Shortstop Bret Dennis is tied with Lauricella with a team-high 11 RBIs. First baseman Conner Simonetti and catcher Ryan Summers lead the team in homers with two apiece.

Keene will host Vermont today at 6:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.

Matt Byrne leads Laconia with a .324 batting average and catcher Christopher Beall is tops on the team with three homers. Leading the Muskrats in RBIs with 11 is outfielder Vinny Zarrillo.

Mariano Rivera (0-1), son of the former New York Yankees closer and future Hall of Famer, has made three starts for Laconia. He has allowed 17 hits, 10 earned runs and seven walks in 18 1/3 innings for a 4.90 ERA. He has 17 strikeouts. His loss came against Sanford on June 8.

He got a no decision in Laconia’s 10-7 loss to Plymouth on June 15. In 5 2/3 innings, Rivera allowed six runs (four earned), eight hits and three walks. He fanned four. In his last outing on June 21 in a 10-5 against Sanford, he pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs, five hits and one walk. He fanned six.

Laconia will host the Ocean State (R.I.) Waves today at 6:30 p.m. at Robbie Mills Park.
