Franklin Pierce lays off four full-time employees

RINDGE — Franklin Pierce University has laid off four full-time staff members.

“These colleagues are valued … and they will be missed,” Dr. James Birge, president of Franklin Pierce University, said in an announcement.

In addition to the layoffs, eight full-time permanent positions that are currently unfilled have been eliminated.

However, the university plans to create one new position.

Birge added there are no plans for further reductions.
He met with the university community last week to announce the cutbacks that are part of Franklin Pierce’s repositioning initiative, to include enrollment figures, reallocation of resources, staffing decisions and growth opportunities.
“Franklin Pierce University continues to focus its energies on its mission to provide an education that matters to people who value the knowledge that comes from liberal learning and the opportunity that arises from a professional credential,” the school said in the announcement.
Earlier this year Franklin Pierce University announced it was dropping six academic degree programs. The university no longer offers majors or minors in American studies, theater and dance, graphic communications, fine arts, math, and arts management.
