Crystal Lake public beach reopens

MANCHESTER — Grab your swimsuits! The public beach at Crystal Lake has reopened for swimming, just in time for the sweltering heat.

The beach was closed for a total of three days over the past week because of high levels of E. coli bacteria.

The Manchester Health Department said Wednesday that analyses of water samples taken on Tuesday indicate E.coli levels are within acceptable limits.

The health department will continue to take weekly water samples at the lake through Labor Day.
Under New Hampshire state law, Class B waters, those acceptable for fishing, swimming and other recreational purposes, shall not have greater than an average of 88 Escherichia coli (E-coli) per 100 milliliters of water.
When water sample results are greater than an average of 88 E. coli per 100 milliliters, the Manchester Health Department may close the area to swimming until the levels are acceptable.
