Bedford antenna maker seeks to expand

New Hampshire Union Leader

BEDFORD - A Bedford antenna maker is seeking approval from the planning board to expand its operations and add an estimated 50 jobs in the coming years.

Haigh-Farr, at 43 Harvey Road, wants to construct in stages a building with up to 42,500 square feet starting this year, according to Brian Pratt, project manager at CLD Consulting.

Pratt presented conceptual plans to the planning board recently and expects to appear before the board Aug. 11 for a public hearing.

He said the first phase, a building containing 2,500 square feet, could be completed this year. The next phase would be at least two years away, Pratt said Wednesday.“It’s going to be dictated by the economy and how their business is going and how their contracts are going,” Pratt said.

Don Hoeler, vice president of sales and marketing at Haigh-Farr, said the company currently employs about 40 workers in its 27,500-square-foot building. The proposed building would be adjacent to the existing one and be “expanded in stages.”

“There’ll definitely be some increase in staff, but I don’t know what the expected number would be,” Hoeler said.

The company website said the business conducts defense, space and commercial work.

Hoeler said workers design, manufacturer and test high-performance antennae used on rockets and satellites.

“We’ve been to Mars a couple of times,” Hoeler said.
