Raymond man, 56, drowns in Governor’s Lake

RAYMOND — A 56-year-old Raymond man drowned Saturday in a lake while attempting to retrieve his canoe.

State Police Marine Patrol reports in a release that M. Lee Ribblett, 56, of Raymond, attempted to swim and retrieve his canoe after it has been blown offshore by high winds on Governor’s Lake on Saturday at 11 a.m.

A witness reported seeing Ribblett struggling and swam out to him, then brought him back to shore, where CPR was performed.

Ribblett was taken to Exeter Hospital via Raymond ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Although the investigation is ongoing, police do not believe alcohol and foul play are factors in the man’s death.
