LONDONDERRY — A long-time Londonderry staffing firm is expanding its search for qualified candidates.

Micro Tech Staffing Group will host a job fair at Saint Gobain in Merrimack, located at 701 Daniel Webster Highway, on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Micro Tech Staffing Manager Trina Hall said the job fair is a departure from the firm’s usual practice of recruiting candidates online, but noted that it’s been a struggle finding eligible workers to fill the dozen or so vacant positions.

“These are jobs in manufacturing, warehousing and light industrial work,” Hall said Monday. “Sometimes these (jobs) can be difficult to fill.”

Hall said most of those positions are at the Merrimack plant, which produces high-performance polymer plastic products used in the aviation, automotive, medical and construction industries, among other things.

The Londonderry Micro Tech branch was founded in 1990, when longtime staffing agent James Longo opened the office at 1A Commons Drive, specializing in job placements in the medical and IT industries.

The local branch opened its manufacturing and distribution division in 1997, according to the company website. Its parent company, founded in 1985, operates staffing offices in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia.

Each site is owned and operated by staffing industry veterans in their respective communities.

Hall said overall demand for qualified candidates in the manufacturing and IT fields appears to be growing at an impressive rate.

Staff at Micro Tech’s combined offices along the East Coast place an average of 2,000 highly-skilled employees each day, according to company officials.

During Tuesday’s job fair, applications will be accepted for first, second and third shift manufacturing associates, as well as weekend help.

Eligible candidates are required to have a high school diploma or GED and be able to pass a drug test and physical.
