Liz brilliant as Fishers win twinbill opener; second game suspended
The Fisher Cats tied the franchise record for consecutive home wins Monday by beating New Britain, 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The victory stretched New Hampshire’s home winning streak to 10 games.
Radhames Liz pitched a complete game (seven innings) for New Hampshire, which has won five in a row overall, and 11 of its last 12. Liz held New Britain to two hits, struck out eight and did not walk a batter. His fastball was clocked as high as 98 mph.
New Britain’s Jason Wheeler allowed six hits in six innings and took the loss.
Right fielder Michael Crouse hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to increase New Hampshire’s lead to 2-0. The Fisher Cats scored their other run in the first, when Mike McDade’s double drove in Jon Berti from second. Berti doubled earlier in the inning. Berti and Crouse each had two hits in the victory.
