Panthers hire Morris as assistant coach

Former Manchester Monarchs head coach Mark Morris on Monday was hired as an assistant coach by the NHL Florida Panthers. Morris and Mike Kelly, also hired Monday, will join assistant coach coach John Madden and goalie coach Robb Tallas under new head coach Gerard Gallant.

Morris, 56, was the Monarchs’ coach for eight years before being fired May 7. He posted a record of 338-224-66 in the regular season and 35-50 in the playoffs. Morris, 56, coached more games (552) than any other coach in Manchester history.

Kelly has mostly recently worked for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, as head coach and general manager.
