Bedford tops Machester East in District I LL action

Blake Murray collected two homers and drove in six runs to lead Bedford past Manchester East 9-5 in the semifinal round of the New Hampshire Little League District I Baseball Tournament at Manchester Central’s Gill Harris Field Thursday.

Bedford advances to the championship round to face unbeaten Goffstown at 1 p.m. Saturday at Manchester Central.

Goffstown defeated Bedford 18-8 in the winners’ bracket finals on Tuesday.

Bedford has to beat Goffstown Saturday to force a second and deciding championship game on Sunday at Manchester Central. Goffstown can clinch the state title with a win Saturday.

Murray carried the hot bat Thursday, first clouting a two-run first inning homer and then pounded a grand slam in the third inning to give Bedford a 9-3 lead.

Teammate Thomas Morgan provided Bedford with a two-run, first inning homer and an RBI single. Murray and Morgan each had three hits to pace Bedford’s 11-hit attack.

Manchester East was led by Sean Wynkoop who had two hits including a two-run homer. Teammate Jamison Reilly also had a two-run homer to pace East’s seven-hit attack.
