Portland Sea Dogs get past NH Fisher Cats in righty’s first AA start of season

Jeremy Kehrt’s first start of the year for Portland Sea Dogs went well, to the chagrin of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Kehrt, who has pitched in parts of the last five seasons in Portland, limited New Hampshire to six hits and one run in five innings in the Sea Dogs’ 6-3 victory on Friday night before 7,157 fans at Hadlock Field.

Kehrt (1-0), a righthander, was recently demoted from Pawtucket, where he was 0-4 in four starts.

Noe Ramirez pitched the final three innings for Portland, earning his 10th save.

Portland collected only eight hits, but three of them were homers, by Derrik Gibson (solo), David Chester (solo) and Michael Brenly (two-run).

Fisher Cats starter Scott Copeland (5-7) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks. He fanned six.

Matt Newman had four of New Hampshire’s 11 hits. Three of his hits were doubles.

The teams play again tonight at 6.
