Police arrest man driving wrong way on turnpike

MERRIMACK — Police arrested a Massachusetts man at a Nashua address late Saturday after he allegedly drove his car at other vehicles and in the wrong direction on the F.E. Everett Turnpike.

State police say they observed a vehicle operating erratically headed southbound on the Everett Turnpike at 11:45 p.m. Saturday in Merrimack. State police attempted to stop it, but the driver accelerated and drove away and exited the turnpike at Exit 11, according to police.

As police pursued the vehicle, police say the driver drove at other vehicles while crossing over the center median. Police say the vehicle re-entered the turnpike, traveling north in the southbound lane. Police broke off the pursuit and broadcast the vehicle’s description to area police departments.

Police later located the vehicle abandoned in a parking lot outside the Merrimack Premium Outlets. Through an investigation police located the driver, identified as Herbert H. Myers, Jr., 45, of North Chelmsford, Mass., at 36 Bay Ridge Drive in Nashua. He was arrested on charges of felony reckless conduct, disobeying a police officer and driving after suspension.

Myers was held in lieu of bail at the Valley Street Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Merrimack District Court today.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Trooper Wood at Troop B in Bedford at 666-3333.
