Motorcycle accident claims one in city

MANCHESTER - A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger seriously injured Saturday when their motorcycle was hit by a car, police Lt. Michael Hurley said.

The motorcycle was heading east on Goffstown Road at its intersection with Montgomery Street at 4:15 p.m. Saturday when it collided with a 1995 Ford Contour driven by Mary Johnson, 58, of Manchester.

The motorcyclist, who Hurley said was a man, died of his injuries while his passenger, a woman, suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Boston hospital. He said their names were withheld Saturday pending notification of family members.

"At this time, it is unknown if the operator and his passenger were wearing helmets," Hurley said in a statement.

Neither Johnson nor her passenger, Robert Uhmel, 50, of Manchester, were injured in the crash.
