Man drowns in Lake Winnipesaukee


GILFORD -- An unidentified man drowned in Lake Winnipesaukee at Ellacoya State Park on Monday afternoon.

The man was found by a life guard in about seven feet of water, approximately 30 feet from the swim line. The life guard brought the victim to shore and initiated CPR. CPR was continued by Gilford Fire Rescue, which transported the man to Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the victim was being withheld until his family was notified.

Marine Patrol officers and Gilford Police also responded to the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled and the incident remains under investigation.
