Sweeney Post clinches playoff spot with win

Pete Abood’s double in the 11th inning drove in Zach Szcechowicz with the winning run as Sweeney Post of Manchester clinched a playoff berth with a 5-4 American Legion baseball win against host Milford Monday.

Sweeney raised its record to 13-3 and Milford dropped to 9-6.

After allowing four runs in four innings, starting Sweeney pitcher Nolan Flynn retired 15 of the next 16 batters.

Sweeney, behind an RBI double from Connor Walsh followed by a two-run homer from Zach Szcechowicz, tied the game in the eighth inning. Joe Lamontagne pitched two scoreless innings in relief to notch the mound win. Sweeney will host Jutras Post Thursday at Gill Stadium at 7 p.m.
