New Hampshire starter Scott Copeland allowed six hits in six innings and New Hampshire capitalized on an error to score the winning run in the seventh inning for a 3-2 Eastern League victory against Portland Thursday before 6,379 fans at the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

In the seventh inning New Hampshire rallied against Portland reliever and losing pitcher Wilfredo Boscan (1-4), who allowed two hits in three innings. Dalton Pompey of New Hampshire doubled to open the seventh inning and scored when Derrick Chung reached on a fielding error by first baseman Stefan Welch.

John Anderson (3-1) notched the win in relief and closer Gregory Infante gained his 12th season save.

The Fisher Cats (43-52), which just lost four of five games to the Eastern Division-leading Sea Dogs (63-35) at Hadlock Field before the all-star break, were led by Matt Newman and Chung. Both players had two hits.

Copeland didn’t get the decision, but on 92 pitches (60 for strikes), he settled down nicely after allowing a two-run first inning homer to Michael Almanzar with Shannon Wilkerson (single) aboard. Copeland walked one and fanned three.

New Hampshire pecked away, getting a run in the third inning off Portland starter Luis Diaz. Pompey walked, advanced to second on a single by Chung and scored on a single by Newman.

The Fisher Cats tied the game 2-2 off Diaz in the fifth inning when Andy Fermin launched his fourth homer of the season to right field. In five innings on the mound, Diaz allowed seven hits. He walked two and fanned seven.
