MANCHESTER — Two Manchester police bike patrol officers working in the area of a known drug house on Walnut Street just before 10 p.m. Thursday, saw a man exit the building and get into the passenger seat of a waiting Jeep.
The officers, Jonathan Duchesne and Din Jenkins, saw the Jeep driver commit two motor vehicle infractions and followed the Jeep to the parking lot of the TM Gas Station, 90 Bridge St..
Duchesne went to the passenger side, where Ian Burch, 31, of 18 Deborah Lane, Dover, was seated. Duchesne said Burch got out of the vehicle and spoke to him briefly, before trying to run off.
Duchesne said Burch assaulted him and broke free of his grasp, running toward Berkley Stree, prompting a foot chase. During his flight, Burch tossed a small plastic bag of a brown powdery substance, believed to be heroin. before he was caught in the rear parking lot of Alley Cat Pizzeria on Chestnut Street.
It took both officers to subdue Burch and take him into custody. The bag was retrieved; its contents tested positive for heroin. Burch was charged with felony possession of a controlled drug and falsifying physical evidence and misdemeanors of resisting arrest and simple assault.
