NH Comets capture state 10U softball crown
The New Hampshire Comets captured the 2014 N.H. ASA 10U state championship recently.
The Comets opened up the tournament with a 15-3 win over Hudson Heat. Jayden Johnson (home run), Ami Rivera (triple) and Lydia Castro (double) combined for six hits and seven RBI to lead the offense. Kaitlyn Boelter got the win on the mound with five strikeouts.
In their second game, the Comets defeated the Northeast Hurricanes, 4-2, powered by Rivera’s three-run homer. Johnson (double) and Boelter added two hits each while Izzy Nelson went the distance for the win, collecting 10 strikeouts.
In the winner’s bracket finals, the Comets had 13 hits in a 10-2 win over the N.H. Lightning. Castro (three hits, double, triple) and Rivera (three hits, double, four RBI) once again led the offense. Abby Walsh, Lily Brochu and Isabella Rivera all contributed with hits. Boelter (three strikeouts) recorded the win on the mound and Nelson added seven strikeouts.In the championship game, the Comets had 11 hits and defeated the Lightning, 12-1 to capture the title. Nelson (three hits, double, two RBI), Rivera (two hits, triple, two RBI), Castro (two hits, two RBI), Walsh (two hits, two RBI) and Jaelyn Kelleher (hit) all contributed to the win.Brochu pitched a complete game with three strikeouts to earn the victory on the mound.
