On Saturday, Market Basket customers who asked store employees about the company dispute might have been handed the following statement:
To Our Valued Customers:
Demoulas Supermarkets Inc. (Market Basket) has thrived and grown over the past 45 years under the guidance of the late T.A. Demoulas and more recently Arthur T. Demoulas. Their philosophy of taking care of the customers, employees and vendors has generated a modern success story.
Market Baskets have opened from New Bedford to Maine with enormous success and popularity. More stores (were) being built in Revere, Attleboro, Athol, Littleton and Plymouth when a shift in the Board of Directors occurred.
This shift gave Demoulas cousin Arthur S. Demoulas control of the company. He immediately dispersed millions of dollars from the company funds to shareholders.
The Board of Directors under his direction has now fired the very leaders who have built our company to what it is today.
Our company is protesting the firing of Arthur T. Demoulas, William Marsden and Joe Rockwell, who have made Market Basket what it is today.
Our warehouse and main office will not be running during this protest.
We will not be receiving any trucks from our warehouse, leading us to eventually run out of many items. We apologize for our appearance at this time, but it is imperative that we make a stand for what is right.
Our company is united in what we believe in.
We do not want our company sold or pillaged of its assets by a family whose interest is greed, not the 25,000 employees or millions of customers who shop here.
Please understand we must stand up for what we believe in!!
Save Market Basket, reinstate Arthur T. Demoulas
