MANCHESTER — Police credit a witness for helping them find a man who robbed the Citizens Bank at 2035 Brown Ave. Monday morning and fled in a vehicle with a 6-year-old passenger.
The bank robber, who was wearing a ski mask and dark clothing, entered the bank shortly before 10:20 a.m., waving a handgun and ordering everyone to the floor.
After demanding money from a teller, the robber grabbed an undetermined amount of cash and fled, entering a vehicle parked on Connecting Road.
A witness followed the vehicle, providing police with a description and the license plate, before losing track of it after it headed east on Interstate 293, toward South Willow Street.
Officer Robert Harrington spotted the vehicle turning from South Willow onto Kaye Street; additional units assisted in stopping the vehicle and detaining the driver.
He was identified as Jose Mercado Falero, 31, of 375 Merrimack St.
Falero was charged with robbery and the vehicle was towed to police headquarters. Police said the boy found inside the car was unharmed; they would not say what his relationship to Falero might be.
