CONWAY – After more than nine months of being missing, 15-year-old Abigail Hernandez is now home with her mother.

The state Attorney General's office, along with local and state police and the FBI, said in a joint press release Monday afternoon that law enforcement was "pleased to announce that Abigail Hernandez was safely reunited with her family (Sunday) evening."

"The Hernandez family has requested privacy as they assist with the law enforcement efforts and as they spend time supporting and caring for Abigail," authorities said.

Zenya Hernandez, Abigail's mother, said through police, "today we are the happiest people on earth."

There was no change or notice of Abigail's return on the website or on several Facebook pages devoted to her safe return.

Paul Kirsch, one of the volunteers who conducted social media campaigns in hopes of finding her, said he could not comment on Abigail's return.

"I have to defer to Zenya now. It is a family matter," he said.

Authorities would not return phone calls for details of Abigail's return, nor did they elaborate much in the press release.

"The facts and circumstances surrounding Abigail's disappearance continue to be actively investigated … Further details will be provided once it has been determined that releasing additional information will not compromise the integrity of the on-going criminal investigation," authorities said.

"Law enforcement thanks the public for its cooperation and assistance in the investigation over the past months and continues to welcome the public's assistance as the investigation continues."

Hernandez was last seen walking home from school on Oct. 9. She sent a letter to her mother a few weeks after her disappearance, but authorities refused to disclose the letter's contents.
