For the first time, sales of SUVs and crossover vehicles have surpassed sales of sedans in the United States. The anti-SUV environmentalists must be pulling out the hairs of their hipster beards.
From January through May, 36.5 percent of new vehicle registrations were to SUVs or crossovers, according to industry analysis firm IHS Automotive, the Los Angeles Times reported on Friday. Sedans were 35.4 percent of registrations. “We assume the sedan is the foundation of vehicles in the U.S., and this is the first time they’re not,” an IHS Automotive analyst told the Times.
Speaking of assumptions, in August of 2011, President Obama lectured American automakers about the auto market. “You can’t just make money on SUVs and trucks. There is a place for SUVs and trucks, but as gas prices keep on going up, you have got to understand the market. People are going to try to save money.”
A President with no understanding of markets lecturing the auto industry about a market he got completely wrong has to be one of our favorite Obama moments. Along with the Obama administration, count the left’s anti-SUV campaign as a complete failure.
