Swamp Bats fall; play at home Wednesday night

The Keene Swamp Bats couldn’t muster any offense Tuesday and dropped a 5-1 New England Collegiate Baseball League decision to the Valley Blue Sox at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass. The loss dropped Keene’s record to 14-17 on the season.

Keene scored its only run in the third inning. Taylor Perez singled, advanced to second on a walk to Stephen Smith and went to third when Ryan Summers reached on a fielders’ choice that erased Smith at second base.

Jarred Mederos followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Perez, making the score 2-1 at the time.

Keene starter Alec Bettinger (1-1) took the loss. He allowed three hits, three walks and three runs in five innings with three strikeouts. Reliever Michael Dunnigan hurled the sixth and seventh innings and allowed one hit, one run and no walks. He fanned two batters. Sam Triece gave up an eighth inning run and two hits. He walked no one and struck out one batter. Bret Dennis had two of Keene’s seven hits in the game.

Keene will host the Ocean State Waves tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.
