Keene police announce retirement of longtime officer, and new hires

KEENE — The Keene Police Department announced Thursday the retirement of Officer William K. Sargent and the hiring of two new probationary police officers and a full-time dispatcher.

Sargent, who was a veteran officer with more than 21 years of service with the Keene force, retired July 1. He was most recently assigned as the department’s property officer in the Bureau of Special Services.

He previously served in the Bureau of Uniformed Patrol, Bureau of Criminal Investigations and was a longtime member of the Department’s Collision Analysis Team.

“Officer Sargent’s knowledge and experience will be missed by the department,” Keene police said in the announcement.

Recently hired were Cristina Paterno of Methuen, Mass., a graduate of Salem State University, where she earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice administration.
She previously served as a police dispatcher for the Reading, Mass., Police Department.

Also hired is Louis P. Yelle, originally of Springfield, Vt. He has served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps and attended Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, Va., where he completed the paramedic certification course in 2002. He previously worked as a paramedic in Brattleboro, Vt.
Paterno and Yelle will join the department’s Field Training and Evaluation Program immediately and will later attend the New Hampshire Police Academy.

Lastly, certified police dispatcher Pamela Zinn of Swanzey has been hired as a full-time police dispatcher. She previously worked as a police dispatcher for state police.
