Clinton vs. speech: Bullying first; what next?
Speaking of the authors of several new works on the Clintons, the couple released a statement to the media that included this sentence: “Their behavior should neither be allowed nor enabled, and legitimate media outlets who know with every fiber of their being that this is complete crap should know not to get down in the gutter with them and spread their lies.”
Americans might well wonder who would have the power to disallow such speech? Well. On March 24, 2009, the Obama administration argued before the U.S. Supreme Court, in Citizens United, that the government should have the power to block the publication of books that engaged in express political advocacy. The administration lost, and Clinton and most other Democrats want to overturn that ruling.
