Mass. teen not injured in Pelham single-car accident

PELHAM — Police say a Massachusetts teen was not injured after driving his vehicle into a telephone pole on Route 38 Saturday night.

According to a release, Pelham police and fire responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Route 38 near Short Road at 11:23 p.m.Upon arrival, first responders located a 1998 brown Oldsmobile Bravado, operated by Corey Galloway, 17, of Dracut, Mass., with its front end smashed into a telephone pole.

According to the release, Galloway told police he had been traveling southbound on Route 38 when he looked down to adjust his radio. According to police, Galloway said when he looked back up at the road, his vehicle was traveling off the shoulder of the roadway and drove straight into a telephone pole, breaking it in half.

Following the crash, Route 38 was closed for approximately 11 hours between the area of Wellesley Drive and Vassar Drive, with traffic detoured around the crash site and through a nearby residential neighborhood.

Police said Galloway was emotionally shaken up but did not suffer any physical injuries. He was transported to Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, Mass., where he was evaluated and released.

Route 38 was reopened at approximately 10:10 a.m. Sunday. The release states alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors, and distracted driving appears to be the cause of the crash.
