Pelham crash splits telephone pole in two; Mass. teen unhurt

August 04. 2014 7:33AM

PELHAM — A teen was shaken up but was not injured when he crashed his car into a telephone pole, splitting it in two, on Route 38.

Corey Galloway, 17, of Dracut, Mass., was taken to Lowell (Mass.) General Hospital for evaluation and later released.

The crash happened just before 11:30 p.m Saturday on Route 38, near Short Road.

Police said Galloway was driving a 1998 brown Oldsmobile Bravado when he looked down to adjust his radio. As he looked back up, his car veered off the shoulder of the road and slammed into the telephone pole, which broke in half.

Route 38 was closed for about 11 hours between Wellesley and Vassar drives. Traffic was detoured around the scene through a residential neighborhood.

Route 38 was reopened about 10:10 a.m. Sunday.

Distracted driving appears to be the cause of the crash, police said, noting that alcohol and drugs were not a factor.
