Fox interview with Ibrahim delayed

MANCHESTER — A Monday evening interview on the Fox News Channel with Meriam Ibrahim, who was sentenced to death in Sudan for refusing to renounce her Christian faith before her sentence was overturned, has been postponed, according to a producer at the network.

Abby Danzig, media producer for “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren,” said Ibrahim asked to postpone the interview, which was set for 7 p.m. Monday on Fox News. It wasn’t clear when the interview would happen.

Ibrahim and her husband, Daniel Wani, arrived in Manchester on Thursday night to a crowd of cheering supporters.

Her death sentence on a charge of apostasy, or abandoning what a Sudanese court ruled was her Muslim faith by birth, was handed down in May while she was eight months pregnant with her second child and drew international outrage.

Her conviction was quashed in June, but Sudan’s government accused her of trying to leave the country with falsified papers, preventing her departure for the United States with her husband and two children.

She was initially detained, then released and moved into the U.S. embassy in Khartoum. After Ibrahim’s release, the family met Pope Francis at the Vatican July 24.
