LACONIA — A moose died Monday night after it walked into traffic on Parade Road and was hit twice, by two cars driving in opposite directions.

The crash happened about 9 p.m. on Parade Road by Turner Way.

Carl Peterson, 66, of Winona Road, Meredith, was driving north on Parade Road when the moose walked into the road and his car collided with it.

Stanley Piper, 86, of Jameson Avenue, Gilford, was driving his car south on Parade Road when his car hit the moose after it was struck by Peterson's car.

Neither driver was injured, but the moose died.

Parade Road was shut down until the moose could be removed from the middle of the road.

Both cars were towed from the scene.
