MILFORD — More than 40 bicycles will be auctioned off by the Milford Police Department at their Annual Bicycle Auction.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to acquire a bike,” said Milford police Capt. Christopher Nervik.

The auction is Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the police station at 589 Elm St., rain or shine. People who want to check out the bikes can come at 8:30 a.m., prior to the auction.

“We usually have a varied array of bikes from really nice mountain bikes to bikes that someone — who can do a little work and fix it up — can make a great bike out of it,” Nervik said.

“It’s a great deal. Often people come in and buy a few bikes, because they can get them at reasonable prices. When we do the auction, it makes bikes available to people who may not have the means to spend a lot, and there are certainly always some really nice bikes for auction,” said Nervik.

“We want as many people to come out as possible, because we want the bikes to go to good use,” he said.

Many of the bicycles were the result of found or abandoned property and are all unclaimed. “They are all found property that we were not able to locate the owners. We have to keep the bikes a certain amount of time due to state statute, but we are way over that point on these bikes because we didn’t have the auction last year,” said Nervik.

They will be auctioned “as-is” and “as-seen” at the time of purchase and no guarantee will be applied to the bicycles.
