UNH 4th in preseason grid poll

Coming off its best-in-the-nation 10th straight trip to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, the University of New Hampshire is heavily favored to extend that streak, if the preseason FCS Coaches Poll is any indication.

Ranked fourth, UNH is one of six Colonial Athletic Conference teams in the top 25, along with No. 7 Towson, No. 13 Villanova, No. 20 Maine, No. 22 William & Mary and No. 24 Richmond.

Defending national champion North Dakota State begins this year’s poll right where it finished last year’s, at No. 1. Eastern Washington is second, followed by Southeastern Louisiana, UNH and No. 5 Montana.North Dakota State ended UNH’s season last December in the national semifinals before beating Towson for the championship.

The Wildcats, who finished last season with a 10-5 record and officially opened preseason camp on Monday, play their first game Aug. 30 at Toledo, a Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) school. Their home opener is Sept. 13 against Lehigh.
