City won’t host 2015 tourney
“We had some interest in doing it for a third straight year, but decided not to,” said Manchester league president Gary Ulbin. Manchester hosted the 13-year-old Babe Ruth Regional Tournament at Gill Stadium last summer and is currently hosting the 13-15-year-old regionals this week in Manchester.
“Manchester has a great reputation of hosting Babe Ruth tournaments over the years,” said Amanti. “Gill Stadium is a wonderful place to host a tournament, as many people in New Hampshire already know.”
“I was approached by George Manley (Babe Ruth District Commissioner for Portsmouth) and we talked about it,” said Amanti. “I advised him that Portsmouth should host a state tournament first. Hosting a state tournament sets the ground for hosting a regional tournament.”
Plymouth took a 2-0 first inning lead behind a two-run single from Nick Lloyd. The Bay State pushed its lead to 6-1 in the fourth inning as Nolan Perry and Dillon Ketterer each contributed a clutch two-run single in the frame. Caraher, who only walked one batter, ran into some trouble in the fifth inning when Central Maine rallied for three runs.
Ketterer had two hits in the win for Plymouth, which will face the winner of Monday night’s late game between Manchester and Pittsfield, Mass., who were both facing elimination.
