Woodlocks reach finals

Goffstown was eliminated from the Little League New England Regional tournament with an 8-2 loss to Tom Wallace American of Barnstable, Mass., in Bristol, Conn., Wednesday.

Goffstown finished 1-3 in round robin play. Rhode Island (3-1) and Maine (2-2) will play at noon today and Connecticut (3-1, whose only loss came at the hands of Goffstown) will face Barnstable (2-2) at 3 p.m. in semifinal action. The championship game will be Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPN

Goffstown fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning due to some sloppy play. Barnstable opened the game by loading the bases thanks to two errors and a single from Bennett Teceno. Brian Frieh singled home one run and Ben Baxter doubled home two more for a 3-0 lead. Frieh would eventually score from third on a wild pitch for the 4-0 lead. Goffstown got one run back in the bottom of the third. Bobby Doherty doubled and advanced to third on a Conor O’Connell fly out. Connor Hujsak doubled to right field to score Doherty to make it 4-1.

But Barnstable put up another four runs in the fourth to pull away again. Colby Burke had the big hit in the inning, belting a two-run home run.

Goffstown went quietly in the fourth and fifth as Barnstable pitcher Teceno cruised along. He threw a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out four.

Goffstown made some noise in the sixth, getting another run but coming up short on the comeback bid.

Hujsak (2-for-2, RBI) was hit by a pitch to open the sixth, but was erased on a fielder’s choice from Clay Campbell.

Derek Steckowych singled and Campbell scored on an error in center field on the play, which allowed Steckowych to take second base. But Teceno recovered to get the next two batters to ice the game.
