A 50-year-old Portsmouth man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony possession and distribution of child sexual abuse images, the Portsmouth Police Department and the state Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force announced.
Police and task force officers searched the Kent Street home of Tyrone A. Jarest after a monthlong investigation into suspected illegal use of a computer, according to a news release.
Jarest faces charges including possession of child sexual abuse images and two counts of distribution of such images. Both crimes are Class A felonies.
He also is charged with two counts of possession of controlled drugs and additional charges are possible, the release said. Jarest is being held on $40,000 bail and is scheduled for a video arraignment today.
Jarest’s arrest comes about a week after another child pornography arrest in the Portsmouth area. Nottingham resident Frank P. Coppola, 39, was arrested July 30 at his home on a felony charge of possession of child sexual abuse images. His
Coppola’s bail was set at $100,000. He was scheduled for arraignment Sept. 3 in 10th Circuit Court, Candia District Division.Under federal law, Internet service providers are required to report findings of potential child pornography to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which provides information to police departments and other entities.
