Claremont 18-year-old among three teens killed in Unity crash
UNITY — State police have confirmed three teens were killed early Sunday morning when their car crashed into a tree on West Unity Road, and have identified one of the victims as a 18 year old woman from Claremont.
According to New Hampshire state police, troopers from Troop C Barracks out of Keene were notified of a single motor vehicle crash outside of 578 West Unity Road.
Police say a black 1997 Saab 9000 was traveling northbound on West Unity Road at a high rate of speed when the operator lost control of his vehicle, causing the Saab to travel off the roadway and strike a tree, splitting the vehicle in two separate pieces.
As a result of this collision a passenger in the vehicle, Brittany Bailey, 18, of Claremont, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say a 17 year old passenger was transported from the scene with life threatening injuries, and that two other 17 year old occupants of the Saab, including the driver, also died at the scene.
The names of the 17 year olds have not been released by police.
The crash investigation is being handled by the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit (C.A.R. Unit).
State police say at this time it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors, though speed is considered a factor. The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with additional information should call Trooper Thomas Conlon at 223-4381 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
