Akron tops Fishers; NH back home Tuesday


Casey Lawrence had a shaky outing and Akron capitalized on it.

Anthony Gallas collected three hits and three RBIs to lead the Rubber Ducks to a 9-3 Eastern League win against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats before 6,082 fans Sunday at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.

New Hampshire is idle today before hosting Richmond for a three-game series beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

New Hampshire (58-63) lost two of three games over the weekend to Akron (66-56), which jumped on Lawrence for four first-inning runs. On 75 pitches, 50 for strikes, Lawrence (9-6, 3.23) allowed nine hits, seven earned runs and one walk. He fanned three.

Gallas had an RBI single in the first inning and teammate Jordan Smith tripled home two more runs in the frame.

Gallas doubled home another run in the second inning for a 5-1 lead and added an RBI single in the sixth inning. Ollie Linton also led Akron with a RBI triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tim Fedroff in the fourth inning.

Down 4-0, New Hampshire scored its first run in the second inning on a solo homer by Jack Murphy, his sixth of the season.

In was 9-1 before New Hampshire’s offense scored again in the seventh inning. Mike McDade was hit by a pitch, took third on a double by Murphy and scored on a sacrifice fly from Matt Newman.

The last New Hampshire run in the eighth inning was produced by Andy Fermin, who homered to right for his fifth of the season.

Murphy had two of New Hampshire’s five hits in the game.
