A Carroll woman suffered serious injuries after she flipped her ATV while riding up a steep embankment on Old Straw Road near the former town dump Saturday.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Roxanne Wright, 45, suffered non-life threatening injuries to her head in the accident. She was originally taken to Littleton Regional Hospital before being transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
A passenger on the ATV was not injured.
Both Wright and her passenger were thrown from the ATV when the vehicle flipped backwards. The unharmed passenger ran back to the couple’s nearby home and called 911.
The Carroll fire and police departments both responded to the scene as well as conservation officers from Fish and Game at about 6:30 p.m. The cause of the accident is unknown, but according to the Fish and Game press release, it appears the weight of carrying a passenger, along with the steep grade of the embankment, resulted in the accident. Neither Wright nor her passenger was wearing a helmet when the crash took place, and the area they were riding was not open to ATV use.
The accident is still under investigation.
