BRENTWOOD — A Plaistow man convicted of battering his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son will be facing the prospect of decades in state prison when he appears before a judge on Thursday.

Roland Dow, 28, was found guilty by a jury in June on 11 of 12 charges for allegedly beating and burning the toddler in the fall of 2012.

A jury convicted Dow of first- and second-degree assault, witness tampering, endangering the welfare of a child and illegally recording a meeting with a child advocacy worker. He was found not guilty on a separate second-degree assault charge.

Each of the three assault felony assault convictions are punishable by up to 10 to 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors said that Dow treated 3-year-old James Nicholson, “like a dog” and subjected him to “torture sessions” inside a running shower. Graphic videos were shown to jurors during the trial that were recorded by the boy’s mother, Jessica Linscott, 24, of Plaistow.

Linscott will be eligible for parole in May. She is serving a 2 ½ to 7 year prison sentence after pleading guilty to witness tampering and endangering the welfare of a child.

She was the state’s key witness against Dow and admitted to not stopping him from abusing the boy. Defense lawyers cast Linscott as an absentee mother who also physically punished her son.
