Strafford County Attorney investigating possible theft from Farmington fire department

FARMINGTON — Strafford County Attorney Thomas Velardi is asking area residents for information after local officials discovered a potential loss of funds at the fire department.

Velardi said the matter was reported by police – on behalf of firefighters and the town - Aug. 6. He said his office is investigating the allegations as an impartial agency.

“We don’t want the police investigating the fire department,” Velardi said, adding there is no indication police are involved in the issue.

While he would not comment on specifics of the active investigation, Velardi said several people have been interviewed to determine whether revenues owed to the town were paid.

As more than $1,500 is involved, he said felony-level charges could be brought if wrongdoing is discovered.

Town Administrator Keith Trefethen referred all inquiries to Velardi’s office.

Anyone with information can contact the Strafford County Attorney at (603) 749-2808.
