Laconia police warn that scam promises work equipment

LACONIA — Police are warning of a scam involving the purchase of construction equipment that never arrives, according to a release.

Police said at least two people are victims of the scam, in which individuals are contacted by phone and agree to meet at a local business to buy the equipment.

The equipment is not on site, but arrangements are made to deliver the equipment and victims are given a bill of sale with a phony vehicle identification number on it, police said.

Anyone with information about the scam is asked to call police at 524-5252.
