FairPoint Communications plans to sponsor the STEAM Ahead NH program through a three-year contribution, the company announced Wednesday.
STEAM Ahead NH is a collaborative academy concept in which faculty at Manchester Community College and University System of New Hampshire colleges work closely with the faculty of Manchester High School West.
FairPoint plans to underwrite the program with a $2,500 annual contribution for three years. The company presented the first payment at the Manchester School Board meeting Monday. Pat McHugh, FairPoint’s New Hampshire state president, presented the check to Mayor Ted Gatsas.
Under STEAM Ahead NH, students will be able to earn up to one year of college credit while in high school. Students will study core content fields — science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics — and also put their learning into practice through internships.
