Newman's home run paces Fisher Cats in winStaff Report

Matt Newman's three-run homer provided the big blow as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeated the Akron Rubber Ducks, 8-5, Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Akron scored a run in the top of the first as Ollie Linton walked, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and came home on a single to center by Bryan LaHair.
The Fisher Cats took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second as Newman cracked a three-run homer with Sean Ochinko and K.C. Hobson on board.
Akron got a run back in the in the top of the fourth inning when Anthony Gallas blasted his 14th home run of the season.
New Hampshire score three more runs in the fourth inning.
Nashua's Kevin Nolan led off with a double and Hobson singled him to third. Jack Murphy reached on an error, allowing Nolan to score and Hobson to advance to third. Hobson scored on a ground out and Murphy came home on a single by Jon Berti after advancing to third base on a balk.
Hobson made it 8-2 in the fifth inning when he doubled home Melky Mesa and Ochinko.
