Danica OK after spinning out

BROOKLYN, Mich. — It was a tough start for Danica Patrick at Michigan International Speedway Monday as 10 drivers took part in a 2015 NASCAR rules package test.

During a double file restart, Patrick, the popular Stewart-Haas Racing team member, spun the tires on her No. 10 Chevy, losing the rear end of the car and hitting the outside wall on the main straight.

Patrick, who finished 18th in the GoDaddy Chevrolet on Sunday at MIS in the Pure Michigan 400 won by Jeff Gordon, was OK but her car needed a few repairs to the right side in the garage.

Patrick returned to the track after the minor repairs were made.

Patrick joined Kasey Kahne, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Jamie McMurray, Paul Menard, Brian Vickers, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin and Aric Amirola in the test designed to introduce a new aerodynamic and engine package to NASCAR Sprint Cup racing in 2015.

NASCAR is hoping to promote closer, better racing with more passing at intermediate tracks next season.

Sprint Cup cars are likely to be slowed down for 2015 after record qualifying speeds at most NASCAR tracks this season, including the incredible 206.558 mph record set last Friday at MIS by Gordon to capture the pole.

Joe Gibbs Racing ace Matt Kenseth was also in the wars early today at MIS.

Kenseth, who drives the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota, blew an engine during the test. He finished 38th Sunday.
