Hampton Falls woman charged with striking Rye police officer with her car

RYE — A Hampton Falls woman was arrested for allegedly hitting an officer with her car’s mirror near Jenness Beach Saturday night.

Paige Fagan, 22, of 5 Coburn Woods Road in Hampton Falls, was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of controlled/narcotic drugs, possession of drugs in a motor vehicle, reckless operation and conduct after an accident.

Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded around 9 p.m. after a brush fire was spotted near Jenness Beach and determining the fire was started by fireworks from a nearby residence along Ocean Boulevard.

As they walked over to investigate, Rye police Officer B.T. Conlon was struck by the side mirror of a northbound car which did not slow down as it crossed over the fog line and drove onto the shoulder, according to police.

The car, which did not stop, also nearly struck another officer and a firefighter. It was stopped nearby by the second officer, according to police.

“Fagan admitted to drinking, admitted to knowing she struck a police officer and admitted to talking on her cell phone at the time of the crash,” according to police.

Conlon, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, was sent to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and was released Saturday night.

Fagan, who was initially held at Rockingham County Jail, was released on $10,000 cash or surety.
